Warblers
Orange-crowned Warbler
Leiothlypis celata
A plain olive-yellow warbler with faint breast streaking and a rarely visible orange crown patch. It is one of the most common and widespread warblers in western North America.
Current regional viewing notes
Brushy areas, forest edges, and riparian thickets around Hoonah; forages actively in low to mid-level vegetation.
Dataset note: This legacy field can be specific to Southeast Alaska/Hoonah and is not a complete statewide range statement.
Habitat
Brushy areas, forest edges, second growth, and riparian thickets.
Diet
Insects, spiders, and some berries and nectar.
Natural history note
Despite its name, the Orange-crowned Warbler's orange crown patch is almost never visible in the field — it is usually hidden beneath olive-green feather tips and only raised during agitation.
