American Robin
Turdus migratorius
One of North America's most familiar birds, with a warm orange-red breast and cheerful caroling song. An abundant summer resident on Kodiak, arriving in early spring and leaving in fall.
Where to look
Lawns, parks, forest edges, and open areas throughout Kodiak town and the island.
Habitat
Forests, forest edges, urban parks, and lawns.
Diet
Earthworms, insects, and berries.
Natural history note
American Robins can locate earthworms underground by sound and sight, and their appearance in Alaska in late February is often considered the first sign of spring.
