A large cormorant of the Bering Sea region, with brilliant red facial skin and a vivid blue throat pouch in breeding season. Kodiak is at the edge of this species' range.

Where to look

Nearshore rocky habitats around Barren Islands and offshore sea stacks west of Kodiak Island.

Habitat

Rocky coastal cliffs and offshore islands.

Diet

Fish and marine invertebrates.

Natural history note

Red-faced Cormorants are so restricted to the North Pacific that they are rarely seen south of the Alaska Peninsula.
