Warblers
Yellow Warbler
Setophaga petechia
One of Alaska's brightest and most widespread warblers—a jewel of vivid yellow with rusty breast streaks on males. One of the earliest warblers to arrive in Kodiak each spring.
Where to look
Alder and willow thickets along Buskin River, Womens Bay roadsides, and riparian corridors throughout Kodiak.
Habitat
Shrubby wetland edges, alder thickets, and riparian corridors.
Diet
Insects and spiders.
Natural history note
Yellow Warblers are so sensitive to cowbird parasitism that when a parasitic egg appears in the nest, they may build a new floor over it, sometimes creating multi-story nests.
